xXx: The Return of Xander Cage Trailer Review: I wasn't a fan of the first XXX movie. They tried to turn Vin Diesel into the 00s version of 80s Schwarzenegger and Stallone but they failed miserably. So he floundered for a bit before the Fast and Furious found its footing so now they return to try and bring him into the action star they preordained him to be.
XXX 3 is the 2010s version of 80s action movies by way of late 90s early 00s EXTREME mixed with lots of Red Bull and Mountain Dew. It ridiculous, over the top, completely unbelievable, but you know what: this is fun! You shouldn't have to be told you need to check your brain beforehand with this one, if you do you'll really enjoy it. It's what action movies need to be today to be relevant: self aware, tongue in cheek, never too serious but never not too serious, and just a lot of dumb fun.
xXx: The Return of Xander Cage Trailer
Some satellites are being blown up and XXX is brought in to stop them. Yada yada yada, who cares? There's Donnie Yen doing his thing, Vin Diesel dropping one-liners left and right, comedy from the supporting cast, and a freaking race of motorcycles on water, this is my kind of movie.
If I had to make a complaint, Tony Jaa was criminally underused here. They could have recast his character with no loss because he wasn't allowed to do his thing like Yen was. Not sure why that is the case but that would have cranked this one to 11. At one point, they go to visit my city towards the end of the film. At my screening, the crowd laughed and clapped when that happened. It was quite a moment.
This movie reminds me a lot of Kingsmen which came out around the same and was similar in tone. I hope this one achieves that type of success, it really deserves it. It has all the setup for a new series, and I would love to revisit more in the future.
addition the motorcycles gliding over water is also very stupid. There are a lot of these stupid action scenes that involve the green screen. Seriously, it's so bad that I was going to walk out but didn't want to waste my money. The script, the actors, the fake plastic toy guns, the story locations, and the story itself are all horrible! The story goes like this: there's the good guy and bad guy, then the good guy catches the bad guy and stops him from causing chaos and destroying the world by the most stupid way of dropping satellites. Then since the story is over so fast, the roles are reversed: the good guys become the bad guys and bad guys become the good guys. It's like the movie finished and gave you an alternative ending just to kill an extra 30 minutes of playing time. That really ticked me off because it was basically like calling the audience a bunch of idiots for seeing the movie. It's like the movie keeps piling bullshit on top of bullshit until you can't take it anymore. Very poorly done film. You couldn't pay me to see it again. I recommend AGAINST seeing this movie. Don't waste your money and time! I don't know why this movie is rated so well here because it definitely should not be.
In this era of Oscars so White and Sexist Hollywood, it is always interesting to see that a guy like Vin Diesel continues to produce and play in films that embrace several cultures (commercial logic surely, but it is necessary to That xXx 3 is a multicultural film) and that have a quasi-perfect parity in the big roles. Indeed, if Vinnie D. obviously takes the biggest role (it seems to have fun like a little crazy), we also have the pleasure to discover new characters rather interesting and played by very good actors Such as Donnie Yen, Deepika Padukone, and even Nina Dobrev. The action is frenetic, but a little touched by DJ Caruso, who seemed much more interested in the comic side of the film (which really works very well), the story does not really make sense, but what counts is The fever and xXx 3 rises crescendo until a near perfect final. After a turnip and a guilty pleasure, the franchise xXx finally offered its first real good movie. Auspicious for the sequel.
Loved it. Great action flick, great references to the first movie. Perfect for adrenaline-junkies, xXx fans, and fast paced fight choreography fans. Fiance loved the actresses so it's got something for everyone. I came into this film as an old fan but with Donnie Yen and Tony Jaa in the film had me excited. Its like they combined two of my favorite things: xXx and Asia's best action actors.
As a Tony Jaa and Donnie Yen fan, I was NOT disappointed. Tony Jaa played Talon, a goofy subordinate of Xiang's (Donnie Yen's) team while Donnie himself played a very calm and laid back agent only serious when it comes to the situation. I had a blast watching his acting as its something of a character I rarely ever see him play other than his role in Special ID: A smartarse youngster almost delinquent-like. My piece of advice towards others going into this movie: Don't blink. You'll miss the best moments
It's your typical Vin Diesel movie, has some really crazy action sequences, lots of cool one liners and a mediocre plot, it offers nothing new, you are probably going to forget it all by next day, was getting a feeling of déjà vu while watching it, it's like been there done that. While the action is the highlight of the movie at times the nonstop action sequences get dull and shifting to storytelling only makes it even more boring. Still, it's an entertaining movie although, in parts, some of the cameo appearances really made it a fun watch. I saw the movie in 3D but felt there were hardly any sequences shot in 3d. The movies strongest positive is the supporting cast, the XXX team are really cool, especially Donnie Yen, he is Vin Diesel equal all throughout. Also, the ladies were not so bad, surprisingly I enjoyed Deepika Padukone performance, which I had strong reservations about. Go ahead and watch it for some over the top action sequences.
I literally have no reason to want to watch this movie other than the fact that Wu Yifan is going to be in it. The first two movies were disgraces to the genre of action movies, with poorly executed plots and corny dialogue, as well a cliche cookie-cutter protagonist. Normally, I would have shaken my head and completely disregarded even the notion of going to the film, but with a killer cast consisting of Vin Diesel, Samuel L Jackson, Deepika Padukone, and my favorite ever Kris Wu's debut in American films, I'm kind of forced to. Anyways, all the best to Wu Yifan! The EXO-Ls miss you but we're also so proud of how far you've come. Also, why on earth is he not on the cast list yet?
